TRAC u/23 national cycling tour at The Rest

The TRAC international cycle tour u/23′s national time trials took place at The Rest Eco and Nature Estate on 31 March 2012. Below are some pictures of the cyclists and the awesome views from the estate.

The Rest architectural style – Neigbourhood B: Carissa – Modern Rustic

The architectural line is predominantly horizontal.  Low-pitched roofs (with minimum pitch of 35 degrees) extend beyond the walls and are supported by lightweight but well designed posts.

The architecture created a gentle fusion between indoor and outdoor spaces, particularly along the highly visible ridges on the northern side of the neighbourhood.

A lighter more contemporary style, distinguished by the clear glass panels (sliding, openable or fixed) within the façade composition defines this neighbourhood.

Chimneys must be understated. Mono pitched roofs with clear storey windows are allowed.

Design elements must be layered to create a play of textures and elements. Seven meter maximum cable widths applicable on single and double storey sections.

The Rest architectural style – Neighbourhood A: Combretum – Barn Style

Highly visible from the surrounding neighbourhoods, this style is distinguished by a collection of contemporary barn-like structures. At least one of the collections of angular barn-like shapes on a single storey house must be of double storey height and at least one of the collections of angular barn-like shapes on a double storey house must be of single storey height.  This is done to visually create a play of light and shadows from a distance in the neighbourhood and thereby create the village on the hill effect.

Modern box shaped bay windows are encouraged Seven major maximum gable widths applicable on single and double storey sections.

Hundreds of people attend open day and green expo

Not even a cloud burst on the Friday night could deter the hundreds of people that couldn’t wait to see the new facilities and to meet the teachers and staff of Curro Nelspruit private school at The Rest Eco and Nature Estate on Saturday 19 November 2011.

The rain caused a lot of damage and the terrain was understandably very wet. This made the tours through the school buildings a bit difficult but everyone took it in good spirits and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

The green expo of The Rest Eco and Nature Estate attracted a lot of attention even though many of the exhibitors had to withdraw for not being able to erect their exhibitions in the mud. A new expo will be held in 2012.
